Finding a great a hair stylist.

Honestly, it sounds so easy…but the process of finding your hair person can be a journey indeed. Layered with hiccups, growing pains and more.

I started getting my hair done professionally at a very young age. My Auntie Lisa lived just a few doors away and my mom scheduled regular visits for my sisters and me. My mom also got her hair done there and so did my grandma. When I think of memories from my childhood, I often find myself reminiscing on the days I would come home from school and scoot over to Auntie Lisa’s for a fresh perm and trim…truly the best days.

Leaving home to head to college caused a little anxiety for me in the hair department...I was so unsure if I would find someone like Auntie Lisa...someone who would truly care for my hair, consider my hair goals, while always giving me the most sound advice on what I actually needed to do. Over the years, since leaving the nest and moving to a few different places, I’ve had my fair share of hair adventures and learned some things along the way. Currently my hair health and happiness is in the care of the one and only Brittany Bradley, owner of Hue studio. Connecting with Brittany was like reconnecting with my Auntie Lisa. The comfort and trust I had been longing to find again, had been found. Working with Brittany has affirmed that it is most definitely ok to have standards when it comes to trusting others with your hair. With that in mind, today I am sharing a few things you should consider when looking for a GREAT HAIR STYLIST! And yes, each of these sentiments are Brittany Bradley approved!

  1. Do they utilize professional grade hair products and tools?

I think it goes without saying, but if you are looking for a great hair stylist, an easy pulse check is to see if they are using professional grade hair products and tools. Professional grade products and tools are more effective as they are backed by more science. Stronger science allows for higher efficacy. Higher efficacy means better results.

One of the things I so love about Brittany is her desire to educate me on why she is using XYZ on my hair. She gives me the details on the benefits and why I should consider using something independently for my hair care when not seeing her. I always leave feeling empowered and understanding how the products she used is changing my hair for the better.

As a sidenote, 3 years ago, I threw away every single non-professional grade hair product I owned. Best decision ever. I can tell a difference!

2. Do they have offer an easy booking system?

Listen. Life is busy these days and an easy booking system is essential. You want to ensure you are looking for a stylist who offers that and is consistent with keeping the calendar running smoothly. Additionally, an easy booking system will allow you to take a look at past services and also allow you to cancel/modify your appointment easily.

In the event the stylist you are interested in doesn’t offer online booking, through your communications, investigate to see if they offer speedy customer service by replying promptly to emails and phone calls to get you booked and make necessary adjustments. Waiting a week or two for a reply to a service reachout is often considered unacceptable in today’s fast paced service culture.

3. Do they have a cancellation policy that is clearly communicated?

If you want to know if a service provider values their craft, just look and see if they have a cancellation policy that is easy to find. In my opinion, this tells me so much about the individual/company…their desire to communicate clearly and honestly, their desire to service you at the highest possible level and perhaps most importantly, their desire to protect their time.

As clients, we should be eager to know these details always and willing to honor them if we find ourselves in a situation where we might have to cancel an appointment.

4. Based on the stylist’s website and socials, can you determine if they do hair or if they are passionate about hair health and integrity?

It’s one thing to find someone who will do your hair, it’s another thing to find someone who will do your hair and is passionate about hair and integrity. As you are doing your homework to discover if this potential stylist is a good fit for you, see if you can decipher amongst the two. For me, finding someone who was mission driven by hair integrity was most important. Until I connected with Brittany, that was something I was really missing. My hair looked good, but it was not healthy. Over the last 4 years, Brittany’s number one priority has been to get my hair healthy and she has communicated all the details along the way…giving me the bad, yet good news. Advising and encouraging me to make slow changes for the long game. And even giving me her feedback on health of hair in regards to protective styling and more. From in-person to online, one thing is certain…BRITTANY BRADLEY IS MISSION DRIVEN and I SO APPRECIATE THAT ABOUT HER.

Ok, those are my thoughts for today’s post! I hope this helps you gals who are on the hunt to find that stylist that gets you and your hair needs!

EN VERITE,

Candace
