LET’S HOLIDAY ELEVATE.

Ladies. The holiday parties have commenced. Whoop whoop. I can’t lie…I do love any and every excuse to dress up. It’s my love fashion language…truly. My love of all things beauty, fashion and hair really comes from a lifetime of wearing dance costumes and competing in pageants, which was literally many moons ago. My life has changed a lot since spending time on stage, including my approach to hair and makeup (Thank the Lord). For my OG girls here…you might remember that about 8 to 10 years ago we were all wearing full faces of makeup on the daily and doing all the things to the hair. While that is still the vibe for some (and nothing wrong with that if that is your preference), culture has really encouraged us to shift to the “less is more” vibe. As my friend Anna Mae Groves calls it, The Clean Aesthetic. And honestly, I love it. But in shifting over to this less is more approach for both hair and makeup, it has left me feeling a smidge frustrated in moments when I need that elevate. Like how do I do that and still stay true to my new simplifed beauty preference?

Well, I decided to reach out to some of my gals who are experts in the space and they helped me pull together a jazzy holiday look that was that “one click up” I was longing for, yet still able to feel and look like myself. Knowing that I am not likley the only gal wanting to know the juice on this, I had two trusted beauty gals to give us the real deal on how we can simply elevate this holiday season. Say hello to Angie Warren, makeup artist, and Denise Chesser, hair stylist. These two gals give us the details on how we can make our beauty a little extra simple this holiday season.

HOLIDAY MAKEUP TIPS

1. Adding a little sparkle to the eye is a great way to take your look up a notch without reverting to a full smokey eye. Pro tip: when using any glitter or pressed pigment, spray your makeup brush with a bit of setting spray before you apply to give you the best color payoff.

2. Adding a highlight on top of your blush or mixing a liquid luminizer into your liquid blush. Instead of adding your highlight at the highest point of your cheekbone, try swiping a bit over matte blush. It will give you a candlelit glow.

3. Instead of a red lip, try a berry lip or even a lip stain. Lip stains are longer lasting and flatter more skin tones.

4. Add false lash for a touch of glamour. Try trio lashes, they are lash clusters and are easier to apply and more comfortable.

HOLIDAY HAIR TIPS

Adding hair extensions will help give you that longer and fuller effect to this hairstyle

  1. Make sure you are placing the clip in extension(s) where it will not be visible, or too low. (It could make your ponytail seem bulgy in areas)

  2. Try using a hair bungee to hold the ponytail in place versus a traditional hair tie. This will help you achieve a cleaner and more secure ponytail.

  3. And don’t forget to wrap some of that hair from the ponytail around the bungee. (Plus it looks better on the eye) try securing that with a small elastic!

And that’s it gals. I hope you find this helpful, as you get prepared for your holiday parties this weekend and beyond! Oh yes, both Angie and Denise are open for bookings on New’s Year Eve. You can find their information above : )
