NEW YEAR RESET.

Well gals, we’ve officially reached that moment in the year where we are all considering a hard reset.  As you know, the New Year is a perfect time to set goals and make resolutions. In fact, we see encouragement to do exactly that everywhere we look. While resets are good, resets that are accompanied by a never-ending to-do list is just a recipe for disaster! What I have learned over the years is that we actually have to be prepared for a New Year’s reset. We can’t allow January 1 to sneak up on us with all of our ideal goals in our heads. Rather, we must take action to even be in a place where we can achieve those goals. So, with that in mind, let’s talk about a couple of things that we can do to realistically prepare ourselves for this New Year’s reset.

No. 1: IDENTIFY YOUR GOALS

The first step here is to identify a couple of areas in your life where you could use a hard reset. Typically, it’s best to pick two or three. It’s easy to get sucked into the belief that we can overhaul everything that we want to change right at the beginning of the year; but I’ve found that choosing more than three areas just doesn’t work.  For me personally, I’ve identified three areas that I want to focus on.  First, I want to do some work to be a bit more diligent in managing my time. I also want to continue prioritizing my general health and wellness. And finally, I want to focus on prioritizing solid structure and order in my life. Go ahead and make your list of where you want to focus for 2023! I can wait patiently here for you.

Once you’ve identified those few things ahead of the New Year, when January 1 comes, you’ll be able to put action items in place to get working on achieving them!

No. 2: identify the resources you need, IN ORDER to achieve

The next step is to figure out what resources you need, in order to achieve these goals. You’ve identified what goals you’d like to achieve and where you’d like to reset, and now you need to put resources behind those areas to support you. So, for example, for my health and wellness reset, I am focusing on pilates and nutrition. I’m going to get some accountability with my pilates teacher, schedule out my classes, and book out my nutrition appointments. These are the resources I need to support my goal of resetting my health and wellness. In regards to time management, that for me is sitting down and looking at the totality of my calendar for the upcoming year. It also looks like reviewing last year and asking myself, “Where were the hiccups?” and “Where was I overcommitted and how can I avoid making those same mistakes next year?”  Another resource I’m really interested in checking out to help me achieve my reset goals is potentially hiring a coach that specializes in time management, to help me understand what time-sucks I have in my life and what roadblocks are tripping me up. These resources will look different for all of us, so don’t be afraid to find what you need, whether that’s support in organization, wardrobe, fitness, or something else!

No. 3: goal checkpoints

The third and final piece of the puzzle to keep your New Year’s reset on track is to give yourself checkpoints.  A lot of us dive right into a reset and just hope that it’s going to stick. I don’t know about you, but that’s not reality for me! Start by giving yourself a 21-day check-in. See how things are going at the very end of those first 21 days. Ask yourself, “Where do I need to make adjustments in order to make these goals achievable?” From there, set up a 60-day check-in, and then maybe a 90-day check-in. Use this time to see where you’re tracking. Perhaps you need to start over, make some adjustments or whatever the case may be, so that the goal is more achievable. I call these checkpoints GRACE. The reality is that life is busy and things happens…these checkpoints give you the grace to adjust and pivot as needed.

And there you have it! A few steps I like to utilize to get my head and heart right in preparation for the new year. I hope you find these concepts helpful as you prepare to reset your goals for that first month of the year, but really, throughout all of 2023.

Know that I am wishing you all success in your reset journey, and cheering you on! You got this lady.
