The seasonal shift is here.

Listen, I adore summer. It’s the season of relaxation, sunshine, and joyous family moments. I’ve had an amazing summer so far! I know that it’s only the beginning of August, but the reality is that fall is right around the corner. Before we know it, these long warm days will give way to falling leaves and crisp autumn air. Saying goodbye to summer can be tinged with a sense of nostalgia. Something that’s been really important to me this summer is planning intentional ways to carry the precious memories and slow moments of joy from summer into the cozy embrace of autumn. Let’s prepare for the transition so we can welcome fall with open arms when it’s time!

One of my favorite ways to carry lovely moments from one season to the next is to gather as many physical momentos as possible. This could be photos of your summer adventures, seashells you collected on a beach walk, or postcards from a fun place you traveled! If you’re the crafty type, you can make a summer shadowbox of your momentos, or add them to a scrapbook! If you like a bit more of a minimalist approach, keep the few items that meant the most to you throughout your summer and place them around your house as a reminder of the warmth and sunshine of summer. You could even dry some flowers from your favorite summer bouquets to keep the color and vibe of the season top of mind.

Another great way to embrace the slow fall forward is utilizing transitional flavors. Preserve some of the magic of summer by making jams, pickles, or freezing blocks of fresh herbs to use in your cooking throughout the fall and winter. Find flavors that transition well between summer and fall like juicy tomatoes, crisp apples, or sweet corn. Savoring some of those tasty treats can build a bridge between the two seasons, and can even transport you right back to those sunkissed days of summer.

As we start the slow fall forward into the next season, start preparing to make your home a cozy oasis. During the summer months, many people love spending time outdoors. As the weather gets chillier, you’ll want your indoor space filled with delicious textures and comfy spots to snuggle up. Sure, you may still be in the thick of sweaty season, but that first crisp evening is going to sneak up on us, and it’s best to be prepared! Pick up some candles you love or check out a book you’ve been interested in. Allow yourself to appreciate the tranquility and carry it with you as summer memories intertwine with the gentle embrace of fall.

Finally, embrace slow living. You know I’ve been on a mission to appreciate all things that embody simplicity. For me, summer was a season of slowing way down and savoring the little things. I plan to keep that same mentality going into fall, and I encourage you to, as well! While you’re riding in the car, look up from your phone and take time to appreciate the changing colors of the leaves. If you’re able, take walks with your loved ones and breathe deep the crisp air of autumn. Gather your nearest and dearest around a firepit and dive deep into conversation. Allow yourself to fully immerse in the present moment and enjoy the gradual transition into fall.

I hope you all enjoy this last month of summer, and you feel prepared to welcome fall with open arms. When the summer sun begins to fade and gives way to the gentle autumn breeze, there’s no need to bid adieu to the joy and warmth you experienced this season! In a way that makes sense for you, you can carry the spirit of summer with you into the cozy moments of fall. When the time is right, grab your favorite spiced tea or pumpkin beverage - cheers to carrying joy from summer to fall, and to embracing the beauty of every moment life brings our way!

EN VERITE,

Candace
